Move!

I found the problem with movement… quite simple, really. I had byte vectors that weren’t quite accurate. A -1 applied as a word requires the whole word to be formatted as -1, not just the right byte. Otherwise you end up with units moving diagonally. A few quick fixes and my units aren’t moving over top of each other or in odd directions anymore. The code base is ready now for the actual “attack and defense” routines, which should be interesting, since there’s so many factors to account for. I also need to find a way to cleanly map area attacks to units affected… preferably with a single routine that can “map” the damage area.

For your entertainment, I recorded a video in Classic99 to show off the start of the combat engine. In particular, you can see the units don’t move in quite the expected order.

Hopefully this gets SOME comments…

I have not checked in a few months on your progress, so it is nice to see that you are still moving forward. Can’t wait to see it in a playable state. keep up the good work.

    Great progress …
    Let’s go !!!

No video for me, it comes as an audio stream only, which is empty, so all I see is a black screen with no sound (windows media player says its only an audio stream). Media Type: Audio, Length 0.33, MPEG Layer 3

Hm, strange…. there is no audio, because Classic99 doesn’t support recording audio yet. What browser are you using, Stu?

Yea man… That’s what I’m talking about. I’m getting some good ideas for further “Beryl Reichardt” development as we speak. I like how the party moves in the “overworld” or whatever it is you call it. =)

I was at work, it was chrome on xp, I downloaded it and ran it in windows media player, no joy. works on my linux box tho. about 60 seconds?

Bleh. I tried recording it as a Windows Video 1 through Classic99, but nothing happened. So I had to use one of the other options. It seemed okay, but maybe the AVS tool didn’t do a great job of converting it.

I’m open to suggestions on how to record a video in Classic99 that will bloody well work anywhere. :)

Hey Adamantyr, any new progress? I have watched this video 10 times already and it just makes me want more. =)
